Excerpt Reveal & Pre-order: Eversong - The Kindred by Donna Grant

BLURB

New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant “skillfully melds history and legend” (RT Book Reviews) in a brand new series – The Kindred.

To live in the light, they hunt in the dark…

Unparalleled in beauty and daring, Leoma has been raised with a single-minded focus—to wipe out corrupt witches. But when her new target leads her to a discovery that unveils a graver plan from the Coven, she doesn’t hesitate to follow. Yet, she’s not the only one on the hunt. And the sexy, infuriating man who crosses her path could prove to be a distraction—something she’s never encountered before.

Honor and family mean everything to Braith. When his life is turned upside down by the murder of his ward and heir without cause or reason, he has no choice but to turn to vengeance. Until a stunning, dangerous woman continues to thwart his efforts at every turn. Now, he must battle not only his need for revenge but his desire for the female, as well.

EXCERPT

Teaming up with the knight had never been in Leoma’s plans. Then again, she knew the best way to defeat an enemy was to adjust course whenever necessary.

And having Braith fight with her was the best decision.
At least she could keep an eye on him instead of trying to fight him as well as Brigitta. Now that he knew what he would be going up against, she suspected Braith could be a good ally.
She finished her bread as she observed him. While it wasn’t her first time seeing a man’s bare chest since she trained with males at the abbey, this was different.
Braith was different.
No matter how much she tried to tell herself that he was only a man, just like Radnar or any of the others at the abbey, he wasn’t.
Braith might look at the world like a knight at home in battle. But he also carried himself like a man who looked death in the eye. Then spat at it.
Those qualities appealed to her on a primal level. He caused her heart to thump wildly, and her blood to rush through her. She was drawn to him. Without rhyme or reason, she could feel herself gravitating toward him.
She was shocked and alarmed at the way her body reacted to him. But even she couldn’t deny the exhilaration that being near him brought.
The glimpse she had of his chest made her recall how she had spread his ruined tunic to get a better look at him earlier. Even now, she wished to see the rest of him.
Her mouth went dry when his indigo eyes met hers after he inspected his hand once more. It took her two attempts to swallow. She wished she knew what he was thinking.
His chest expanded as he drew in a deep breath and released it. “What’s our next move?”
“We wait.”
“Wait?” A dark brow shot up in question.
She couldn’t help but grin. Of course, he wouldn’t agree. She expected as much, and she knew it wouldn’t be the last time. “Aye.”
“Why?”
“The main reason is that we know Brigitta wants you for something.”
Braith crossed his arms over his chest, his lips flattening in displeasure. “I’m bait.”
“Is that a problem?”
“Nay,” he said tightly. Then he asked, “And the other reason?”
Leoma looked in the direction of the Witch’s Grove. “I’ve seen witches do many things with magic, but I’ve never seen one use it to disappear.”
“That was...shocking.”
“She could’ve gone anywhere.” And that bothered Leoma greatly. She slid her gaze back to Braith. “We have no way of tracking her.”
He lifted a shoulder. “Consider me bait, then.”
They shared a grin. She hadn’t expected him to be so accommodating. Most men were used to being in control. The idea of a woman running things generally went against everything a man knew. Especially men like Braith.
Then again, maybe he was smart enough to know that if he wanted to stay out of the Coven’s hands, he needed her. Or they needed each other since he had no experience with witches.
Leoma wasn’t sure what to make of the emotions that swirled seductively within her. Having his eyes on her did strange and amazing things. Heat and...need glided through her. Slowly. Seductively.

Excerpt:

She hurried down the hall as if she’d just dodged three painful minutes in my company. I shook it off. What was the difference? What was I trying to do here? Get my ass fired? Get her fired? There were dozens of women I could take to bed and absolutely no reason to focus on the one who could make my life and my job miserable. But that body. The way she walked. The swing of her black hair across her back. A female voice came from behind me. “There are rumors about that one.” It was Marie Siska. Founding partner at Siska + Welton. She was in her early fifties and had her brown hair up in a tidy twist. She was a former litigator who had argued in front of the Ninth and had a way of knowing the intricacies of every case we handled. “What kind of rumors?” “The unsubstantiated kind.” She invited me into my own office and closed the door behind us. I sat in front of my own desk, in one of the two guest chairs. Marie’s lavender pants suit was custom made and she never sat down. She put her hands on the back of the second guest chair, pulling herself up a little as if she wanted to look taller. “Barney and I have made a decision about you.” I tried to look completely calm, but there was a pretty good chance my face froze over in the attempt. “Let’s hear it.” “Alexander Burke and Neuronet are your catch. If you go, he goes with you. That’s a plus in the senior partner column.” I’d played MMPORGs with Burke way back in the day. All the zombie shooting had paid off. He was also a great guy and a badass gamer. “But we’re a recent contract,” she continued. “And it’s short term. He can cut us loose any time for another outside contractor or to keep it all in-house. It’s fine. It’s part of the business, but a long-term retainer could be big for us. One third of future billing.” “And my name would be one third of the ones on the letterhead.” She did something she never did. She sat down in front of me. “I’ve wanted to be a lawyer ever since I saw a Senate debate on C-SPAN. We’re a small, classy operation with a stellar reputation. Classy and stellar were the goal, but small wasn’t. We should be litigating in front of the Supreme Court, and the reason we’re not is because we have to scratch and claw every quarter. We can’t take the chances we need to. I have ten or fifteen more years of active participation in this business before I can’t keep up, and it’s coming at me fast. We’ve tried to grow and it’s never stuck. This is our chance to turn this firm into what I dreamed about when I was ten. You are our chance.” “No pressure.”

About CD Reiss:

C.D. Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to chop a cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Cover Reveal & PreOrder: The Schemer by Avery Flynn

Synopsis

Tyler Jacobson has a plan for everything—except how to handle his completely annoying, utterly frustrating, and totally sexy upstairs neighbor. He couldn’t care less if Everly Ribinski thinks he’s equally irritating—until he discovers she’s the only one who can help him land a business deal that will finally make him feel like he’s more than just a guy from the wrong side of the tracks.
Color him shocked when Everly refuses to help, insisting she should have run him over in the parking garage when she had the chance. Harsh. But possibly deserved. Tyler may have spent the last few months reveling in annoying the fiery gallery owner with a dark past, but he’s got secret leverage she can’t refuse.
If only one meeting didn’t turn into a fake date that turned into more. Way more. Like naked and hot as hell more.
The last thing either of them wants is to catch feelings for someone who is so obviously not their type. Good thing that will never happen. Right?

About the author
Avery Flynn

USA Today bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.
She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name.
Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Darkest Temptation by Rachel Van Dyken

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Publishing Date: October 31st, 2017

I'm a werewolf King who chose to step down out of grief for my mate.
For centuries I've been alone, choosing to live a life of modesty despite the wealth surrounding me.
I deserve to be punished.
I crave things I have no business craving.
And it is manifesting itself in a way I'm terrified I won't be able to control any longer.
Especially since she arrived.
Vampire. Orphan. Beaten beyond recognition.
My blood calls to her in a way that makes no sense.
I'm a wolf.
She's a vampire.
The two don't mate.
They barely tolerate one another.
All it takes is one slip of control on my part — one taste.
And I doom us all.
Then again, I never knew what is lurking inside has the power to balance good and evil.

Review

Excerpt
The air around me thickened with a sweet-smelling fog. I inhaled and closed my eyes, allowing my baser instincts to take over.
“Wolf.” She whispered my name. I sniffed. The voice was not familiar. It was not my mate. It was… other.
“Wolf,” she beckoned again. Branches crunched beneath my feet as I made my way closer to the sweet scent, closer to the warmth, closer to what I should have been running from. I was already mated. And yet — I was being pulled. Like a siren’s song. I hated sirens. Every last one of them. But only the strongest were male.
This — I sniffed the air again as ecstasy took over — this was no male.
This was all female. The instinct to protect kicked in, forcing a surge of adrenaline through my limbs as I staggered toward the trees. Green eyes blinked through the fog. I stilled. My breath caught. Vampire. I frowned, reaching for her.
“Kiss me, Wolf.”
Why was I tempted? Why did I want to touch this being? When every hair stood on end like she was foe not friend. When I had a mate back home that I loved more than life itself. Confusion warred with disgust, and then the vampire stood on her tiptoes and pressed her cheek against mine, the way my people greeted. But she was no wolf. Her lips grazed the outside of my ear before she bit down onto my neck… I jerked awake.
Sweat pooled the bed like I’d just taken a shower. And my mate, the one I was so convinced would be lying right next to me, was gone. She’d been gone. Over a hundred years. And every year, like clockwork, on the anniversary of her death. I saw my vampire. She bit me. And I woke up with a bruise on my neck as if it were real.

Excerpt:

I’m at a table in the back-right corner, he texted.
In a cab a few blocks away. See you in 5.
Kylie was running a few minutes late, not rudely late, just fashionably late. She had pulled nearly everything she owned out of her closet, trying to find something that was flattering, yet rock-star cool and ‘Yeah, I know his ex is a top model’.
‘So What’ chic was the look she was trying to pull off. It wasn’t easy. With the recent weight loss, she was between sizes. Her big girl clothes, as she was now referring to them, looked like misshapen potato sacks on her and her pageant days’ wardrobe were nowhere near an option yet, and might not ever be. She made the decision. It’s New York, seriously, just pick something black. And so black it was. Black legging jeans, black high boots, a thin, black, cashmere V-neck sweater, all topped with a black leather jacket.
Twisting her hair, she clipped it up, then pulled a few strands out to frame her face and a few at the base of her neckline. It was messy and sexy. Standing in front of the mirror, she wondered for whom she was dressing. Jesse? Well, yeah, you don’t want to be seen with a rock star looking like a beast on parade. The paparazzi? Same logic applied as for Jesse. The skinny model ex-girlfriend? Well, not really for her, but for everyone who would make a comparison. For herself? C’mon, he’s Jesse Fucking Winslow. Get real. As she made her way to the back of the darkened restaurant, Kylie could feel her spine straighten, shoulders fall back, chin up.
The only thing missing was the sash as she gracefully floated past tables, the male occupants covertly attempting to sneak an appreciative look without alerting their female companions. I’ve still got it. And her confidence soared as she sat down in the chair next to one of the sexiest, most recognizable men on the planet, and he had watched every man in the restaurant check her out.
“You look gorgeous, Toots.” “Thank you.” It was still surreal that she was sitting here with her new buddy. “I’m going to have to fight half the guys in the restaurant off you.” Laughing, “I doubt that.” Kylie rolled her eyes.

I must've been 5 or 6 when I started writing "stories". I would write them and hide them. Not wanting anyone to see my "secret" thoughts. I needed to write - even back then. Now I'm just not hiding them anymore. Is that a sign of maturity? Nah... Writer, photographer, insatiable wanderluster, edge-player, foodie, music addict, pop culture fanatic, animal lover, warrior for the rights of people and planet, and avid cusser (am a Native New Yorker, so very little offends me...and if I am offended, it must be pretty freaking bad..like bad grammar!) I am a big believer in signs and if we keep ourselves open, there are guideposts all along the way. Stay humble. Be true. Be you. Life is not a dress rehearsal...
